Description

Induction for new staff (online)

This online course provides a general induction to the University for new staff, to complement local/department-based induction programmes. An equality and diversity module is included so that you can reflect on the University's policies and expectations of you in this important area. You will also find a welcome from senior staff at Oxford, together with key information about your employment terms and conditions and about university services and departments which you might need to know about in your first weeks of employment.

The core course will take about 2-3 hours to complete, although you may chose to spend longer on it if you are interested in exploring some of the links provided in more detail. You can work through it in one go, or return to it as you wish during your period of course registration.

We expect that by the end of the course you will have:

  • heard the perspectives of senior university staff, together with a little about Oxford's values
  • gained some insight into the structure and governance of the University
  • reflected on equality and diversity issues as they affect you in your role at the University
  • discovered the range of professional development opportunities available to you, generally and through the Learning Institute
  • learned about the benefits available to members of staff
  • found out useful information relevant to your job

There is no tutoring and no formal assessment, but reflection (including some interactive quizzes) is built in to help you check what you have absorbed. You may also find it helpful to discuss the course content with your supervisor, line manager or other colleague, or even work through the course with another new colleague.

There is no need to book a place on this course. To register you will need to complete an automated registration process, and choose 'Induction for new staff'. - please note, you will need your ox.ac.uk email address for this.
